Production Planner

Location: Springfield, MO

CSI is looking for a Production Planner.

The Production Planner is responsible for coordinating and optimizing production schedules in a custom
manufacturing, engineered-to-order job shop environment. This role ensures efficient use of resources,
timely delivery of custom and standard products, and alignment with customer requirements.


The Production Planner takes ownership of ensuring scheduled dates are met and has the authority to
modify plans to maintain these deadlines. Collaboration with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing,
and Production teams to create feasible schedules, monitor progress, and address potential bottlenecks is an
important part of this role. The Production Planner monitors progress, mitigates risks, and optimizes
workflows to achieve on-time delivery and operational efficiency.
In addition, this position requires excellent written and verbal communication.

Salary: $70K - $85K annually

Primary Functions

  • Review project specifications, technical drawings, and project requirements to understand scope and deliverables.
  • Confirm feasibility of a proposed project bases on available resources, materials, and timelines.
  • Develop detailed production schedules for custom orders that align with customer deadlines and shop floor capacity.
  • Prioritize jobs bases on customer deadlines, while considering material delivery dates, resource availability, and project complexity.
  • Coordinate closely with departments like Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to ensure that the production schedule is accurate and meets customer commitment dates.
  • Adjust schedules dynamically to accommodate urgent orders, unexpected delays, and current
    production resource capacities.
  • Identify material schedule requirements for each custom order based on engineering designs and
    production resource capacities.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Project Management to ensure timely availability of raw materials, components, and specialized parts. This includes implementing plans for material substitutions (finishes, material of construction, brands, configurations, etc.) as required to meet customer schedules.
  • Monitor inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess stock.
  • Assess shop floor capacity, including labor, machinery, and equipment, to allocate resources
    effectively.
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend solutions to optimize workflow and throughput.
  • Track job progress and ensure adherence to planned schedules.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Project Management to clarify design specifications as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Production, and Purchasing teams to ensure alignment of project goals.
  • Update Production Management stakeholders on order status, including any delays or changes to delivery timelines.
  • Monitor actual project labor costs as they compare to the budget and flag potential overruns.
  • Identify potential risks in the production process, such as material delays or equipment downtime.
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of CSI’s ERP system and its application in effectively managing and maintaining production schedule dates.
  • Maintain accurate records of production plans, schedules, and resource allocations in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Generate reports on production progress, resource utilization, and delivery performance for management review.
  • Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies or recurring issues in the planning process.
  • Propose process improvements to enhance scheduling accuracy, reduce lead times, or optimize resource use.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, operations management, supply chain management, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in production planning or scheduling, preferably in an engineered-to-order or custom manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
  • Familiarity with engineered-to-order processes, including reading technical
  • drawings and understanding bill of materials (BOM).
  • Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and/or database.

More than 40 hours per week may occasionally be required in order to achieve the productivity necessary
for this position. Overnight travel, Saturday, Sunday and holiday hours may occasionally be required but are
not anticipated with this position.


This position requires the ability to interact with employees verbally and in writing, remain in a stationary
position for 80% of the workday, have close visual acuity, and constantly operate a computer and other
office productivity equipment, such as a phone, copy/fax/scan machine, computer keyboard and mouse
with or without reasonable accommodation. This position also requires the ability to occasionally lift, stoop,
bend, and lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
