International Logistics Lead

Location: Springfield, MO

Job Description:

CSI is looking to hire an International Logistics Lead. The position is responsible for the daily coordination and execution of global logistics of products. This role manages the complete shipment lifecycle, including selecting transport methods (ocean, air, road), preparing and transmitting shipping and customs documentation, tracking shipments, negotiating rates, classifying goods, and resolving logistics issues. Working closely with carriers, forwarders, and customs brokers, the lead ensures all shipments meet delivery deadlines and compliance requirements.

This role provides active oversight and guidance for day-to-day tasks by working closely with various departmental roles in their preparation of airway bills, bills of lading, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, and shipping labels; coordinating scheduled pickups; supporting landed cost calculations; and partnering with the Supply Chain team on import coordination. The lead contributes to the development and continuous improvement of the processes and procedures that support these logistics activities and, when needed, will directly perform these tasks to ensure continuity and effectiveness.

In this role, you’ll work primarily with purchasing, customer service, sales, warehouse, and project management to coordinate international logistics services. Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 annually

Primary Functions

Carrier and Forwarder Management

  • Coordinate the logistics of shipping goods, including selecting the appropriate transport methods (ocean, air, road) for both import and export shipments
  • Identify and vet potential Carrier and Forwarder partners
  • Maintain relationship with existing Carriers, Forwarders and customs brokers
  • Track and manage shipments, ensuring delivery deadlines are met and resolving any shipping issues
  • Claims Management
  • Rate negotiation

Goods Classification

  • Provide guidance and assistance in classifying goods for import using the Harmonized Tariff System (HS) codes in ERP system
  • Provide guidance and assistance in classifying goods for export using Schedule B codes in ERP system
  • Ensure correct classification is applied for tariff, customs and compliance purposes
  • Work with customs brokers to resolve any classification issues or disputes

Documentation and Compliance

  • Prepare and transmit export documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin
  • Maintain import and export licenses
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to import/export compliance
  • Develop and provide input to the development and update of processes and procedures in support of shipping operations and export compliance

Shipping Coordination and Communication

  • Prepare and oversee preparation of shipping documents such as Airway bills, bills of lading, shipping labels, etc.
  • Prepare and communicate shipment routing instructions to shipping team, customers and forwarders
  • Provide timely updates on shipment status and delivery times
  • Communicate directly, timely, and professionally with internal stakeholders (Customer Service, Sales, Project Management, Supply Chain, Warehouse, etc.)
  • Communicate directly, timely and professionally with external stakeholders (Customers, Vendors, and Carriers)
  • Troubleshoot any issues related to delayed shipments, damaged goods, or misclassification

Import Coordination

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain team to manage transportation of import shipments
  • Rate shopping and negotiation
  • Landed Cost calculations and internal communication to the receiving team
  • External communication to arrange shipment, with correct documentation for suppliers
  • Scheduling shipments and applicable freight pickups with carriers and forwarders

Reporting and Analysis

  • Determine and establish KPIs for reporting
  • Use business systems (including ERP) to write and query information
  • Prepare regular reports on shipping performance, and costs
  • Review and report on carrier performance (on time, damage, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments, classifications, and logistics activities
  • Analyze trends and suggest improvements to optimize shipping costs and efficiency

Required Skills:

Education/Training:

  • College diploma or equivalent, required
  • 3+ years related work or relevant military experience
  • Import and export licenses and regulations
  • 1+ years of experience filing AES
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Required Experience:

Experience:

  • Knowledge of systems such as Epicor ERP or Prophet 21, UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager
  • Prior experience as a shipper/exporter of record
  • Experience with Export Control, Transportation, Warehousing, and Freight Forwarding a plus
  • Advanced degree (e.g. Bachelor, Master, etc.) preferred, but not required

More than 40 hours per week may occasionally be required to achieve the productivity necessary for this position.

This position requires the ability to interact with employees verbally and in writing, remain in a stationary position for 80% of the workday, have close visual acuity, and constantly operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a phone, copy/fax/scan machine, computer keyboard and mouse with or without reasonable accommodation. This position also requires the ability to occasionally lift, stoop, bend, and lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
