Applications Specialist - Heat Exchange

Location: Springfield, MO

CSI provides hygienic heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and fittings to industrial companies and industrial service providers. We are searching for a qualified candidate that has the ability and passionate commitment to collaborate with Business Development Leaders in their roles in order to ensure our customers’ satisfaction throughout the sales cycle. The position’s tasks vary, but primary focus is on customer requests for information, quoting, technical solutions, and order management.

The Applications Specialist - Heat Exchange position plays a critical role in supporting customer satisfaction and operational efficiency by managing the full lifecycle of heat exchanger projects. This includes sizing and specifying heat exchangers based on technical requirements, preparing accurate quotes, and providing technical assistance to both internal teams and external customers. The role requires a strong understanding of heat exchanger functionality, features, and applications, as well as the ability to communicate this knowledge effectively.

Key responsibilities include daily management of quotes, open orders, and project updates; evaluating warranty claims; coordinating modifications and repairs; and ensuring timely processing of customer materials. The specialist will collaborate with vendors to procure materials, handle return goods processes, and support sales through lead qualification and customer account setup. A commitment to maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude (aligned with the I-10 approach) and a focus on decisions that support corporate goals and profit margins are essential to success in this role.

Primary Functions

  • Build positive relationships with others and maintain a positive I-10 approach
  • Size and specify heat exchangers based on product/process conditions provided
  • Ability to understand the function of heat exchangers, and be able to describe their features, benefits, and applications
  • Provide heat exchanger technical assistance to internal and external customers
  • Create heat exchanger quotes for new and existing customers per standard, daily
  • Submit cut sheets and approval drawings to customers for approval when needed
  • Execute proper review and updates of the open order report, including communication for internal and external customers, daily
  • Timely updates to customers regarding current projects
  • Start, continue, and complete workflow tasks per process and within same business day
  • Proficient in providing sound decisions that are well aligned with corporate goals
  • Understand functions critical to producing margin
  • Ability to find opportunities and make decisions that positively affect profit margins
  • Make sure customer material is in the system, available to be received, same business day as material arrives at CSI
  • Assist in the evaluation of customer’s warranty claims
  • Orchestrate all modifications and repairs per customer requirements
  • Support sales efforts through questioning and qualifying the prospect, daily
  • Ensure proper handling of return goods
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and/or evaluate returned product
  • Communicate with vendors to purchase and expedite drop ship goods
  • Set up new customer accounts
  • Coordinate any special logistic needs as required by customer

Salary: $26 - $30 an hour

Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • Mechanical or Chemical emphasis, preferred

Experience:

  • Process application knowledge in heat exchangers desired
  • Extensive mechanical experience, preferred
  • Experience in technical problem solving and troubleshooting, preferred

It is generally expected that an applications team member will work an average of 45 hours during a normal work week. However, due to the sporadic nature of our production requirements, work hours may be increased or decreased throughout the normal work week to correspond with the man-hour capacity required. No overtime is guaranteed.

This position requires the ability to interact with employees verbally and in writing, remain in a stationary position for 90% of the workday, have close visual acuity, and constantly operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a phone, copy/fax/scan machine, computer keyboard and mouse with or without reasonable accommodation. This position also requires the ability to occasionally lift, stoop, bend, and lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
